A Poetry Workshop at the Mount Carroll Township Library
Thursday, September 17, 6:30 PM
Poet Carol Gloor, Facilitator
No Charge

Many of us don't read or try to write poetry because we think it's too hard, too "intellectual," and
we are not that way. This workshop will show you different. You can enjoy the poetry of
others, as well as write your own, for your own satisfaction, to share with family and friends, or
to get published. You don't have to make up something from thin air (although you can if you
want). Writing prompts will be provided and hints to get you started. You will then be given
time to write: rhyming, free verse or a prose poem (a poem which uses concentrated language
but which often is in sentences)whatever your heart tells you to do. You will then read your
work and learn to give and receive constructive criticism to and from others, to and from your
RSVP at 815-244-1751

Imagine you are taking a walk along a nature trail, and you come upon a page from a children’s book, laminated and mounted on a stake. As you continue to walk you discover another page, then another, and another, you soon realize you are reading a story! The Story Book Trail combines the enjoyment of a children’s story with the benefits of walking outdoors and an appreciation for the natural world.

University of Illinois Extension
Master Gardeners and Master Naturalists invite you to spend an hour with us at a Storybook Trail
at The Mount Carroll Library on September 5, 2015 at Noon!

The Mount Carroll Community Foundation has awarded the Mount Carroll Township Public Library a grant to help fund their Learning with LEGOS program.

The purpose of the Learning with LEGOs program is to provide an interactive hands-on science/mathematical program for children. “Playing” with LEGOS promotes early literacy development by learning to follow directions. That is why LEGO programs are becoming increasingly popular in libraries.

With this funding the library plans to have a hands-on outreach program from Discovery Center Museum located in Rockford, Il on Saturday, September 19 at 10:00 am. They will provide their program Lots of LEGOs. This program will investigate gears and forces and use America’s favorite bricks to construct a merry-go-round or windmill that really works! This program will be for children from grades 1-6.
The remaining funds will be used for LEGO bricks that will be used for the initial program and subsequent programming at the library.
The Mount Carroll Library would like to thank the Mount Carroll Community Foundation for this grant and for recognizing the importance of this program. Their support for programs like these directly serves the library’s mission statement and will help to allow those without access to educational programs or museums to participate and learn in this creative environment. Consistent programming for all ages promotes growth and familiarity with the library.

We are fortunate to have organizations such as this that support this remarkable community we live in.
