Activities at the Mount Carroll Township Public Library in December, 2013:

CHRISTMAS AROUND THE WORLD AT THE MT. CARROLL TOWNSHIP PUBLIC LIBRARY.

Throughout the month of December the Mt. Carroll Township Public Library will be celebrating Christmas Around the World with area artist and master gardener, Nancy Gmitro. Nancy will share with us her expertise and knowledge of Christmas customs through the decoration of Christmas trees displaying the crafts, ornaments and customs of the following countries : Holland, Mexico, Brazil, Italy, Ukraine, Japan, Sweden and Pioneer America. Come and visit the library to see Nancy's handiwork and learn about the different cultures and customs of other countries surrounding the Christmas season.

Nancy will conduct 3 workshops for children and adults of all ages on the following dates:

Pioneer America - December 7, 2013 10:30 am
This class will take place in conjunction with our 'Father Christmas' program. Children will learn about the different customs back in Pioneer days and will make ornaments to take home.

Sweden - December 12, 2013 6-7 pm
Participants will learn about Santa Lucia Day and other Swedish customs. Story time and a craft making straw ornaments will follow.

Mexico - December 19, 2013 6 -7 pm
Nancy will speak about the 'OJA DE DIOS' (The eyes of God) and other customs of Christmas in Mexico. Story time and craft will following as well as the breaking of the Piñata for toys, prizes and candy.

Donate to Heartland Pet Welfare

From November 16 - December 2, 2013, Heartland Pet Welfare and No Kill Cat Shelter will be collecting donations of supplies for its center. A drop box will be available at the library for donations of: Paper Towels, Dish Soap, Bleach, Garbage Bags and other cleaning supplies for the shelter. Her-Story: The Hands Project

"Her-Story: The Hands Project" Photographs by Award-Winning Photographer, Elizabeth Chambers of Mt. Carroll is now on display at the Mt. Carroll Township Public Library. (July – August 2013)

"The Hands Project" is a photographic compilation of women’s stories through their hands. “Through this project, I wanted to spread awareness of the struggles, joys, triumphs and passions that are unique to women,” Elizabeth shares. "Her-Story" is the birth of "The Hands Project", which will continue to develop to tell the stories of people across the world, through photographing their hands.

Breakfast Book Club

 

The Mt. Carroll Township Public Library has started another new book club.

Our Breakfast Book Club is now meeting the last Wed. morning of every month at 10:00 am.

Barnes and Noble comes out with a Nook app

For those of you patrons who have a Barnes and Noble Nook Tablet, there is great news!

Barnes and Noble has released a Nook app that you can download to make OMNI LIBRARIES checkout easier.
