Christmas Around the World

Christmas Around the World
at the Mt. Carroll Township Public Library

Throughout the month of December the Mt. Carroll Township Public Library will be celebrating Christmas Around the World with area artist and master gardener, Nancy Gmitro. Nancy will share with us her expertise and knowledge of Christmas customs throughout the decoration of Christmas trees displaying the crafts, ornaments and customs of the following countries: Holland, Mexico, Brazil, Italy, Ukraine, Japan, Sweden, England, Poland, and pioneer America. Come and visit the library to see Nancy's handiwork and learn about the different cultures and customs of other countries surrounding the Christmas season. Nancy will conduct 2 workshops for children and adults of all ages on the following dates:

Poland - December 6, 2014, 10:30 am

This class will take place in conjunction with our 'Father Christmas' program. Children will learn about the different customs back in Poland days and will make ornaments to take home and decorate the library's tree.

Mexico - December 11, 2014, 6-7 pm

Nancy will speak about the 'OJA DE DIOS' (The Eyes of God) and other customs of Christmas in Mexico. Story time and craft will follow as well as the breaking of the Pinata for toys, prizes, and candy.
