The Mount Carroll Community Foundation has awarded the Mount Carroll Township Public Library a grant to help fund their Learning with LEGOS program.

The purpose of the Learning with LEGOs program is to provide an interactive hands-on science/mathematical program for children. “Playing” with LEGOS promotes early literacy development by learning to follow directions. That is why LEGO programs are becoming increasingly popular in libraries.

With this funding the library plans to have a hands-on outreach program from Discovery Center Museum located in Rockford, Il on Saturday, September 19 at 10:00 am. They will provide their program Lots of LEGOs. This program will investigate gears and forces and use America’s favorite bricks to construct a merry-go-round or windmill that really works! This program will be for children from grades 1-6.
The remaining funds will be used for LEGO bricks that will be used for the initial program and subsequent programming at the library.
The Mount Carroll Library would like to thank the Mount Carroll Community Foundation for this grant and for recognizing the importance of this program. Their support for programs like these directly serves the library’s mission statement and will help to allow those without access to educational programs or museums to participate and learn in this creative environment. Consistent programming for all ages promotes growth and familiarity with the library.

We are fortunate to have organizations such as this that support this remarkable community we live in.
